A Self Controlled Tongue

This week's project is all about our speech!

We need...

to be intentional about the way we use our words. Words. Wow. This is an area of personal conviction that I have been working on greatly. In talking with other women, I have observed that this is a problem area for many.

How do we use our words? Do we use them to complain? To argue? To put down? Or do we use them to encourage? Build up? Sharing love?

This week, let’s use our words only for good. No complaining. No harsh tones. No negative, hurtful speech.

This is a great reminder for me. I am participating in Project 9: A Self-Controlled Tongue!

Tracey L. Heppner is a well-known photographer who chose to migrate to the Philippines with her family because she wanted to give her gifts and talents to those who could never repay her. Let us get to know her more and be inspired to give back to others as well!

Can you briefly describe the work/life you have before coming to the Philippines?

We moved from the province of Saskatchewan, where my husband pastored and I had started my photography business in 2003, to British Columbia in 2007 with the primary goal of creating an unconventional community of faith in the metropolis of Vancouver.

I also continued my work as a wedding and lifestyle photographer, working with many of canada's leading photographers. I became one of the best second shooters in Vancouver. It was something I worked hard to be.

I co-founded a networking group for wedding photographers in 2008 and have successfully turned it over to the local photographers there. There are over 300 members.

I was voted one of vancouver's top 50 portrait photographers in 2009.

In December 2010 I was among 8 nominated for the most influential in the wedding industry in British Columbia.

My business was starting to boom again after our move from saskatchewan. It was perfect.

Why did you come to the Philippines?

I volunteer at Gentle Hands, with media. Gentle Hands is a Christian social welfare agency located in metro manila. We rescue children who are abandoned, abused, or malnourished. We are also a licensed foster/adoption agency.

I photograph everything that goes on there. I also take some of the newborns very first newborn sessions. Most likely they would never have had the opportunity to have photos taken had they not come to GH. I take photographs of the children; these photos will be precious treasures for their forever families one day.

I would like to shoot some weddings still.i do destination weddings. I love "love". My photography "business" is primarily weddings and couple lifestyle sessions.

How can we help you in what you are doing?

Let people know that they can give to Gentle Hands in not only monetary ways, but in tangible ways. We have a list of current "needs" that people can give to. Every bit of giving helps. The needs are so great.

Short message to those people who want to make a difference, just like you.

You dont have to be a "somebody". You don't have know someone who is a "somebody". You just need to be willing. There are so many people who are much worse than you. Be grateful for what you have been given and give back. You can only truly receive when you give. It's the most satisfying thing you can do.

My Reflection on Numbers

While reading the book of Numbers, I realize how uncontented people are. God has been providing for their needs, yet they complain and tire of what God has been providing them. Then they ask for more and then they would complain. We can see how hurt God is that people reject His love, instead it is like the people just keeps asking for more but they don't really love God. How can this be when they have experienced God in so many instances? Like the 10 plagues in Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea and the cloud and pillar of fire and the countless miracles. People by nature are truly selfish. Thinking only of ourselves most of the time. People are forgetful. People only think of "now" and satisfying their urge of the moment.

I am so grateful that Jesus Christ came into my life. Even if I am such a sinner, He chose to redeem me. Without Him, I am truly nothing.

WFW - Leviticus 19:18

While reading the book of Leviticus, I have seen the words.. I AM THE LORD many times. It came clear to me that the law is there for us to obey because GOD IS HOLY and HE IS THE LORD. He commands respect and we are to do the law because HE IS THE LORD.
We obey the law because we want to honor GOD.
What better way to show how our love and devotion to him - by obeying His law through the help of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Spend Time With Your Children

This week’s project is:

to purposefully spend time with each of your children, one on one. If you have many children, this project may take a little longer than one week, but don’t let that get in your way of spending time individually on your children.

I almost don’t want to admit this…but I got this idea from the Jon & Kate Plus 8 TV Show. A while ago they did a series of episodes where they had a day out with each of their children to spend time alone with them.

Although, their situation didn’t end well, Michael and I have always loved this idea of purposefully setting aside time to spend together with each child individually, regularly.

So, this week, however you choose to do it, spend time alone with each of your children.

*If you do not have children yet, this can be a great opportunity to lift up your future children in prayer. Although I do not yet have children, I pray for them all the time. Even though I do not yet know them, I love them dearly and I pray for them very often!

WFW - Leviticus 10:3

While reading Leviticus, you would be amazed by how much preparation the priests had to do so that they would be able to do their duties... this just goes to show how holy God is and how we, as humans, can never comprehend fully His awesomeness, His holiness... because we are frail and unholy since the beginning.

Thank you Jesus. I can now come before God because of Jesus.

Because the Lord loves us, He leads us.
Because the Lord loves us, He gives strength and guidance to us.
It is not because we love Him.
It is not because we are obedient.
It is all because of His love and His grace.

Thank you Lord for the beauty of your grace.

Share Knowledge

Today is our 6th Project already for Fixing Your Heart on Titus 2.

Our project today is :

to share a book with someone, either to borrow or to keep. Have you read a great book about what it means to be a Christian woman, wife, parent? Why not share the knowledge?

This week, let’s all share a book with someone. This way, we will be spreading biblical knowledge and understanding!

Use this as an opportunity to lift up another woman who is considered “younger.” Maybe a new mom, or a new wife, or a teen young lady.

I am currently reading a real good book that I would recommend to all parents.
Shepherding A Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp.
I am only in chapter 5 of the book yet I have learned so much already. I learned about how my child responds to the my authority now shows how we will respond to God's authority in the future. I also learned that more than the behavior, we ought to be more concerned of the child's heart, because out of the heart, the mouth speaks. If we don't resolve the heart issue, it will just recur in the future and the lesson is not learned. I also learned that I am God's agent of change in my child's life and I am only obeying his command when I discipline my kids.

This is really a very insightful and practical book... but above all, it is very sound in its teaching. So if you are a parent out there, I recommend that you get a copy of this book!

He Must Increase... I Must Decrease

As you go through life- earning an honest wage, keeping your word, returning good for evil, regarding others more important than yourself - continually give Jesus Christ the credit. Let His glory shine so bright that when your days on earth are done, your loved ones will say "What a great God this disciple served!"

You Are Inspirational!

The main reason why I put up this blog 2 years ago was because I wanted to share inspiration to others. I have featured several people and blogs in my previous "you are inspirational" posts... I also featured people who are an inspiration to others like Ninoy Aquino, Cory Aquino and Efren Penaflorida. Recently, I featured Ms. Kara David and her foundation Project Malasakit.

I realized that each one of us can inspire others with what we do, whether it is through a personal effort or through a foundation. In the coming weeks and months, you will see the badge "you are inspirational" again as I feature people who inspires us to invest in others. I will also feature foundations where we can channel our support. If you have anyone or any foundation that you would like me to feature, please let me know.

I also hope that you will join me as I will try to rally together the bloggers to go beyond blogging... and let's help others around us. I believe that each one of us can be an inspiration and bring transformation into someone else's life.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful that I got to see some of my friends from high school last week.
It has been a long time since we were able to gather and spend some time together.
Both of my friends have moved to other countries already and I missed them a lot!

Being with Jenny, my best friend from high school, is truly a blessing!

Thank you Lord for the blessings that friends bring.

WFW - Exodus 6:30

When God asks us to do something, most of us would often look at ourselves and reply to God with what we can not do... It is like telling God "Are you sure you want to use me God?"
We often forget that God knows who we are thoroughly and that He is a great God!
We belittle what He can do in us, through us and for us!
What a humbling reminder for me today.
