Extravagant Grace

It is so easy to say it... but sometimes, it can get really hard to do! I remember using this verse to inspire my kids to obey what I command them to do... and it has really been effective too! I also try to remind them, it is the same way with God too. If we truly love Him, it wont be so difficult with us to obey Him.

Time to Do Some Thinking...

From Martin Luther: “The maid who sweeps kitchen is doing the will of God just as much as the monk who prays, not because she may sing a Christian hymn as she sweeps but because God loves clean floors. The Christian shoemaker does his Christian duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship.”

Saturday night was Earth Hour... but instead of joining Earth Hour, we went to Calamba because we joined the Elders of GCF-Sta Rosa and their wives for a fellowship dinner.

Dear Graduates

Dearest Graduates,

Congratulations and welcome to the "real" world. There are many challenges awaiting you. Most of them can be heartbreaking but if your persevere and hold on to God, I am sure you will be successful in your careers! Just remember that things may not turn out as you expect them to be but remain hopeful and confident. Failures may come, but use them as a stepping stone not as a stumbling block.

God bless you as you start a new journey!

Always,
Chris

WFW - Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

How do we number our days aright? Get into the word of God and check our lives against it. It is not too late. We can still change our ways. Let us take the challenge.

My Glasses

I love books and I love reading them. It is like being carried away to a new place and experiencing something new whenever I read them. I also love looking at pictures and postcards. Its like I am travelling without leaving the house. I also love watching TV series and movies. I love reading different blogs. I love jotting down and making lists. It is only now that I have realized that I love using my eyes. I am really a visual person and that I am a visual learner as well.

Taking care of my eyes wasn’t really that a big deal to me when I was younger, but now, I realized that I have to be more careful. My mom and dad both wear glasses. My hubby wears them too. I wear them from time to time, when I have to sit in front of the computer for an extended period of time. But I haven’t been used to wearing one so I usually don’t wear it. I was told that I have astigmatism. So I have to wear those glasses to have it corrected or prevent it from getting worse.

So, do you think my glasses suit me?

Dearest Mom and Dad

Dearest Mom and Dad,

I want to thank you for all the support you give us. Though you don't always agree with our decisions as a family, still you show your love and support to us by financially helping us and giving us gifts from time to time. I know this is your way of showing your love. Though we never talk about our feelings or our relationships because this is how we were brought up in the Chinese culture, I know now that you love me. When I was young, I used to wonder if you really loved me because I was longing for words of encouragement and affirmation from you but now that I am older and have kids of my own, I know that you did and you do love me. You just showed it in your own way.

I pray that I was able to show you my love and now, I hope you know that I cherish the moments we spend together and that I value your opinions. Even if I do not agree with your opinions, they matter to me because you will always be my parents.

I love you, mom and dad.

Always,
Chris

When we face troubles of many kinds, it is sometimes hard to think about such things... but we are reminded by this verse that THESE ARE the exact moments we should be thinking of such things and this is our training ground. Our minds and our hearts are the battleground. With the power of the Holy Spirit, instead of focusing on things which lets us down, let us dwell on those which are praiseworthy.

Oath of Allegiance (Panatang Makabayan)

Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas,
aking lupang sinilangan,
tahanan ng aking lahi;
kinukupkop ako at tinutulungan
maging malakas, masipag, at marangal.
Dahil mahal ko ang Pilipinas,
diringgin ko ang payo ng aking mga magulang,
susundin ko ang tuntunin ng paaralan,
tutuparin ko ang tungkulin ng mamamayang makabayan;
naglilingkod, nag-aaral, at nagdarasal
nang buong katapatan.
Iaalay ko ang aking buhay
pangarap, pagsisikap
sa bansang Pilipinas

This is commonly recited in school but I don't really remember the words anymore. Now that I am older, I read it again and reflect on the words, and it means much more.
It brings inspiration and respect to our country.

Books for 6 Year Olds

I used to love reading books, in fact, I used to read books in a very fast pace. Well, that was before I gave birth to my kids. Since I gave birth, I noticed that I read books at a slower pace and I can hardly finish a book. I don’t know if I became disoriented? Or too busy? Anyway, now that my kids are no longer infants, I want to go back to reading books. Aside from blog hopping, I want to establish a good habit of reading books as my past time. I know that my kids watch me and how I handle books will have a big influence on them as well. Right now, I am glad that my eldest, who is 6, loves to read. She is reading magic tree house for the past few days... I know that it has an impact on my son, who is 3 years old. He loves to imitate his sister so he tries and pretends to read as well.

Before checking out the free software download for Windows, I am checking out good books for my 6 year old, I realized that our library of books is no longer suitable for her as most of it are books with one word and she has been reading it for the longest time. Do you have any suggestions?

Teachable Moments

There are so many expenses we need to pay for. Kyla’s graduation fee, the credit card bills, the house, the medicines and other day to day stuff. We also had to pay for our car registration and motor trade insurance this month.

Sometimes, we just don’t know where to get the money we need but I believe that God will provide what we need, in His perfect timing. I am the type of person who would want everything to be in order so if a payment’s due date is near; I would want the money to be ready. But since hubby decided to leave IT and be a pastor, God has been teaching me to rely on Him and I can clearly see that everything is by His grace. If he wants to bless us, He does it on His timetable. If he wants us to undergo a trial, He allows it but never leaves us empty handed.

These are teachable moments to the kids too, as we adjust our lifestyle; we teach the kids that God will provide for our needs. Sometimes, when someone blesses us with materials or financially, I tell my daughter about it so that she would learn and see firsthand how God answers our prayers.

WFW - 2 Timothy 1:9

who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time
2 Timothy 1:9

God didn't save us because of anything we had done. He didn't save us because we believed. He has already chosen us before the beginning of time. And for what reason you might say? It is because of his own purpose and his grace.
We should always remember this... There is nothing we can boast about.

Gifts for the Kids

If you are a mom like me, you would constantly be on the look out for great gifts for your kids. I like to reward them whenever they have done good with school work or if they have completed their chart or just to surprise them.

I have been thinking whether to get them toys or clothes. I have seen these jellycat toys which I am sure they will love but the barefoot dreams and appaman apparels are equally beautiful too. I was glad to see all these items in one site, Lou Lou’s Corner.

Now, I just need to choose which one should I purchase for them.

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." Taken from NIV

More often than not, we are a prejudiced people. We have preferences and sometimes, if we are not careful, we might be judging others already. We should always be cautions... as the scripture reminds us today... The Lord does not look at outward appearance but He looks at the heart.

Music and Me

I used to love listening to music when I was a teenager and still working, but since I became a Stay At Home Mom, I haven’t really been listening to music much. Also, haven’t really been purchasing CDs as I used to. Partially because of our financial constraints but I think I have outgrown it already. But just to know what kind of music is on the airwaves, I tune in to the FM radio stations during lunch time. Whenever I like a particular song, whether old or new, I just look for it over the Internet using Free Mp3 Search engines.

My favorite songs are still those songs which I used to listen to... I guess, habits are really hard to break huh? I like songs from Plumb, John Mayer, Jason Mraz and of course a lot of 80s, 90s and early 2000 songs. I also like Christian contemporary music. My favorite is Third Day. One of my favorite songs is Show Me Your Glory. If you haven’t heard of this yet, check this out!

Here are the lyrics...
I caught a glimpse of Your splendor
In the corner of my eye
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen
And it was like a flash of lightning
Reflected off the sky
And I know I'll never be the same
Show me Your glory
Send down Your presence
I want to see Your face
Show me Your glory
Majesty shines about You
I can't go on without You, Lord
When I climb down the mountain
And get back to my life
I won't settle for ordinary things
I'm gonna follow You forever
And for all of my days
I won't rest 'til I see You again
Show me Your glory
Show me Your glory
I can't live without You

Pastors and Wives Fellowship

Today, we went to Greenhills Christian Fellowship (GCF) in Ortigas to attend the Pastors and Wives Fellowship. It was my first time to attend such an event and was quite excited to meet other pastors and their wives from GCF. We went there with the kids. They came from different outreaches and I got to meet and talk to a few of them. We also prayed for each other. It is good to know that there are other wives who are in the same situation as I am and it was a reminder that God will sustain me and see me through every situation He puts me in.

I hope to meet with other pastor's wives more regularly in the coming months. I think this should be an action item for me.
