Thankful Thursday #39

Today, I am so thankful for a great 2010!

This year has been full of adventures as a family.

My hubby decided to pursue his full-time ministry as a pastor and we also decided to homeschool our kids. It has been adjustment phase for us but thank God, it has not been that difficult!
Hubby was diagnosed with Diabetes but thank God that its not yet too late.
Hubby and I both got hospitalized midyear but thank God, it wasn't very serious and we both recovered from Dengue fever.
Thank you Lord that even if it sometimes gets really tiring, you are always there to refresh us and remind us of your everlasting and unfailing love.

Happy new year to everyone!
I pray that as a new year is about to start, we would all intentional live our lives for the glory of God next year!

Karaoke Thoughts

Just the other night, we attended a Christmas party and they brought a karaoke machine to the party. Filipinos love singing and music for karaoke is usually part of a celebration. Whether it is for a simple gathering or a birthday party or a Christmas party. Singing by the attendees of a party is already a standard in holding successful and entertaining parties. And Karaoke singing is accepted in any social class, whether you are from the upper class to the middle class to the lower class of the society.

I am not really a fan of Karaoke. Maybe because I don't really like singing in public anymore. I used to sing when I was in high school until I was in early college but I just stopped singing in public. Anyway, I wondered if Karaoke singing was only popular in the Philippines, but I was surprised when I looked for Karaoke on Wikipedia, I noticed that Karaoke singing is also popular in other Asian countries like Taiwan, Japan and Korea. They are sometimes more known as
"karaoke boxes". In North America and Europe, private Karaoke rooms are more common in Toronto, Los Angeles and San Francisco. I think these places are populated with many Filipinos and therefore could be a reason why Karaoke is becoming famous in these places.

Today, I am so thankful that we are celebrating Christmas together as a family!
Another Christmas together is something that we often take for granted... but this year, I am really glad and thankful to the Lord that He allowed us to spend one more year together, under His care and grace.

As we celebrate Christ's birth this holiday season, may we always remember that the true meaning of Christmas is why we can all celebrate together with love and joy in our hearts.

To God be the Glory!

Thankful Thursday #37

Today, I am so thankful to celebrate another birthday! As I celebrate my birthday, I am just amazed at God's love and presence in my life. I acknowledge his greatness and I know that without Him, my life would be meaningless and pointless.
I am a testimony of God's love and blessings!
To God be the Glory!

Thankful Thursday # 33

Today, I am so thankful that my other blog, The Mommy Journey, is included as a finalist in the Philippine Blog Awards 2010 under the Best Parenting and Home Category. I am so honored to be nominated and included in the finalist. Ever since I started blogging 2 years ago, I have never thought that I would be receiving such an honor. I just wanted to share experiences and bring mommies together through an online community when I started the Mommy Moments meme.
I also wanted to encourage all those moms who are facing the same challenges as I was.

I thank the Lord for blessing me with so much.
To God be the Glory!

WFW - Psalm 145:14

When we fall, we just need to call unto Him, He will never let us down.
What a great reminder for me today.
Thank you God for being there!

We Need A New Car!

Our car is almost 9 year old and really needs a check up. Just recently, we have been hearing some noises whenever we drive. I hope that it is nothing serious as the holiday season is approaching and there are many family gatherings we need to go to. It would be really difficult to have the car break down right now. Besides, we still don't have enough capital to buy a new one right now.

But it is my wish that we would be able to purchase a new car by next year! Along with new car mats, new seat covers and new gadgets in the car. It would be less of a headache for us if we can get that new car. If the new accessories would be custom made for us, it would even be better! We won't really need too much interior styling. I think I only want personalized car floor mats but that's just about it. Though it would be nice to have the car exteriors enchanced.

Browing through online automotive accesories superstore is keeping me and hubby excited! We are truly praying for this need of ours, since we dont only use it for personal use but also for hubby's visitations.

Counting Your Blessings

I think everyone should read this and think about. I am told it is a true story, but I don't know that for a fact.

A woman on the top of a 54 story building threatened to jump. Whenever the police moved towards her, she screamed and inched closer to the edge. A young preacher passing by saw what was happening and ran up to see if he could be of assistance. When he saw the woman, he noticed that she was not a typical jumper.

The preacher asked the police to let him say a few things to her. Initially she reacted the same way towards him as she had before. Then he said something shocking: "I am so sorry ma'am that your grand-kids don't love you and never show you any attention." To everyone's astonishment she snapped her head up immediately.

"My grand-kids are the best kids around. I love all eight of them and they love me. They are always coming to visit and giving me little gifts. Don't talk bad about them to me!"

The preacher said, "Well, I am sorry you are so poor then, that you have to jump to your death to get away from your debts."

Again she gasped, "How dare you! Look at my nice clothes! I have the world's best husband who buys me nice things and makes me feel beautiful."

The preacher looked confused, asking "Then why were you jumping?"

With a laugh she responded, "I don't remember!" and stepped away from the ledge.

If you are having a day when you feel like nothing is going right or you have nothing in your life, stop and count your blessings. It really does help. Remember that before Mark Ecko hit it big with his clothing line, he was just a normal guy. Before Harrison Ford made it big, he was just a normal guy too.

Is Your Child Over Scheduled?

We see them everyday, those parents who are in a whirlwind shuttling their children here and there, to this activity and that activity. Some of them follow finely tuned, down-to-the-minute schedules. Their children seem to be involved in every club, sport and activity, from scouts to debate club to martial arts classes and more. Some of these children may be driven to build credentials for college entrance applications while others may be following peer pressure. Parents may also feel pressured to get their kids into a full spectrum of activities because they don’t want their children to miss any possible opportunities for development and growth. Unfortunately, some children may begin to feel overwhelmed.

Children who are experiencing this activity overload may exhibit some of the following characteristics:

- Lower grades
- Decreased enjoyment of the activities
- Feeling tired or depressed
- Experiencing body aches and/or headache due to either lack of sleep or stress

A full schedule of activities can wear on a child's family and social life. The child may really just want to hang out with dad while he’s selecting his favorite team on sports betting sites or building a project in the garage. And when both parents are shuttling the children to different activities, they may find that the entire family is suffering from activity overload.

You can use the following tips to alleviate over scheduling:

- Use moderation when scheduling activities. You can add more activities when you feel it is appropriate.
- Determine whether the chosen activity or club is age appropriate for your child.
- Use a scheduling system to make sure you feel organized. Make sure everyone in the family has access to the calendar and can plan accordingly.
- Create a family-only day. This is a day when you do something as a family, with no interference from individual activities.

By freeing up the family's schedule, everyone will feel better and less stressed.

A Mikimoto Necklace for Stuffing the Stockings

Many people around the world are getting ready for Christmas. You may even find that you are almost done with your shopping! One thing that you might realize, though, is that you have forgotten about the stockings. Getting stocking stuffers is something that most people put off until the last minute simply because it is not top on the priority list.

So, when trying to come up with stocking stuffers, what are some things that you can get? For women, some jewelry makes a great stocking stuffer. Pick up a Mikimoto necklace or earrings for a stocking stuffer that will have her eyes shining. For a man, you can also get jewelry—just make sure that the man in question actually wears jewelry.

Other options could include candy. In fact, traditionally the stockings are mostly filled with candy. Coming up with some great candy ideas can be fun. Put in a few gourmet candies to make the chocolate lover in your home even more excited. Many families put a piece of fruit in the stocking as well, such as an apple or an orange.

Any small gifts that you can come up with can make for a great stocking stuffer. If you want to surprise a loved one with their "big" present not being under the tree, if it is small enough you can put it in their stocking. A good example of this would be if you got them a new smart phone, or possibly even a video game (depending on the size of the stocking, of course!).

Finishing off the final few touches of your Christmas shopping gives many people a sense of accomplishment, especially if this shopping is finished well in advance of Christmas day.

Dealing with Financial Emergencies

Are you prepared for a financial emergency? What would you do in case something happened and you needed money right away that you simply didn’t have? Perhaps the transmission in your car dies, or a child or pet gets sick and needs to be taken to see a vet or doctor. These types of financial issues can happen to pretty much anyone these days. You do not want to end up being caught unaware because a financial emergency falls into your lap and you do not know what to do about it.

You shouldn’t panic, because you have options. If you have things that you don’t need any more, you could consider selling them online or perhaps at a garage sale. You could also take some valuables to a pawn shop and see what they could give you for them. Another option might be to take out payday loans. If you know someone that could lend you the money that might work as well, but over all of these there is another option and that is to simply have the money. Having the money beforehand will allow you to deal with a financial emergency swiftly and easily, which is the best way to handle such an emergency.

But how? You are broke right? Not if you plan. If you take a very small amount of your earnings from every check, it will actually add up fast. You could put the money in an interest-baring savings account. If you have auto deposit, you may actually be able to set this up to happen automatically. In other words, there is a variety of options available to you for you to set up a rainy day savings fund. You've run out of excuses, so start saving today so that you can deal with financial emergencies before they happen rather than right after they fall unexpectedly into your lap.

Thank You Jesus!
You are worthy of all the glory, all the honor and all the praise.

Inspiration Out of the Blue

We all have flashes of inspiration. Maybe you all of a sudden get the perfect image of how to redo the decorating in your home while playing online casino games. Or maybe that donation project that has been rolling around in your head suddenly pops together while you are out shopping. No matter what the inspiration, or what you are doing when it comes, it is generally something that should be acted on.

Even if you don't have time immediately to act on your inspiration, don't let it get away. Take some time to write down what came to you. Don't try too hard to figure out where the thoughts came from. In most cases you won't find a link. In fact, it could just be your subconscious jumping up and yelling "HELLO!" while you found your conscious mind previously occupied.

There are many forms of inspiration. In fact, almost any thought can be called inspiration. If you are a writer or artist, you may find that there are times when nothing is coming, and then all of a sudden it feels like a dam has broken. If you are trying to come up with details for a new project for work, you may find that it comes to you in an inconvenient time. That's the thing about inspiration: In many cases, it is not something that can be willed into existence. It will happen when and how it happens, and there is nothing that you can do to change that.

Inspiration in different cultures has been called many different things. It used to be that the muses were the goddesses of inspiration. Today, we consider these thoughts to be "light bulbs" that go off. No matter how you want to look at it, inspiration is what gets the mind going and the projects flowing.

New Products to Watch Out For!

I am not really very good when it comes to interior designing but I love beddings. I love looking at the different designs and choices that are available at BedBathStore. I checked out the new bedding by Pem America and I really loved the floral purple and white comforter set. It is a queen comforter set made with hypo-allergenic materials. The purple, lavender and white are perfect mixes for our room. It would add the much needed brightness to accentuate our room.

Another piece of furniture that I am really interested in is sofa sets. The new products by Fun Furnishings are so neat! They provide different colors which kids or teenagers would really like and be a match to their rooms. Beanbags are also available and I have been a fan of bean bags since I think they can be used for multi-purposes and can fit practically anywhere!

To add color and decoration to a house, one needs pillows and the new products by Taylor & Company are just in time for the coming Christmas season! I don’t really decorate our house much aside from the Christmas tree and a few decors but I love the red Christmas pillows. They add excitement to the house and bring the needed cheer of the season! These pillows are made of wool so you wouldn’t need to worry that they won’t last just one year!

You Are Inspirational, Ms.Kara David

It has been a long while since I last wrote about inspirational people who went out of their way to help and bring inspiration to others. I have decided to start "You Are Inspirational" again. This time, I will try to feature people and their projects which can bring inspiration and even help others to start their own inspirational projects too.

Our guest for today is ms. Kara David. She studied Broadcast Communication at the University of the Philippines (1990-1994). She then pursued a career in journalism at GMA Channel 7, the Philippines’ foremost TV network. Kara has since then been a field reporter for the daily news while also doubling up as an investigative journalist / documentarist for I-Witness and as host for OFW Diaries. (taken from

Project Malasakit (Compassion) is a scholarship project founded by Ms. Kara Patria David in 2002. Despite the growing cynicism in the country, Project Malasakit believes that Filipinos are naturally compassionate. The Filipinos just need a credible, concrete vehicle to channel their“malasakit”. It is their mission to bridge the gap between Filipinos who want to help and Filipino children who need to be helped.

Question: What made you start with project malasakit?

Kara: because of the nature of my job, i am always sent to different areas in the philippines. marami sa mga lugar na ito ay mga remote communities, sa mga malalayong sulok ng ating bansa, sa tuktok ng mga bundok, sa mga lugar kung saan walang kuryente at kalsada, mga lugar na di pa nararating ng karamihan. ive always believed that everything happens for a reason -- hindi tayo dadalhin ng Panginoon sa isang lugar kung wala siyang misyon para sa atin doon. dati, akala ko my only mission was to do documentaries, videotape people's poverty and report them as truthfully as i can. pero once you are exposed to the poverty of the countryside, once the cameras have stopped rolling, once the director has shouted "cut! pack up!"... the pain in your heart remains. parang di ko magawang iwan ang mga tao. dinadala ko hanggang pagbaba ng bundok ang pain, ang bigat ng kanilang hirap.

compassion is the capacity to feel other people's pain, enough to move one to action. compassion "malasakit" is different from sympathy or "awa" -- ang awa kasi nananatili lang sa puso, pero nakakalimutan din sa kalaunan. ang malasakit -- pakiramdam mo nasasaktan ka rin, thus moving you into action. this is the reason why i started project malasakit. i knew that God wanted me to do something more -- to use the media as a vehicle of compassion. maging tulay ng mga taong gustong tumulong at mga taong dapat tulungan.

at hindi mahal magpa-aral ng bata -- it takes only 1,000 pesos per month to sponsor a child. what is 1,000 pesos? a pair of jeans? a movie and dinner date? a pair of shoes? maliit na halaga pero malayo ang mararating sa buhay ng isang bata.

Question: How did you start it?

Kara: it started in 2001 with one scholar named myra demillo of mindoro -- her story is on my website (how we started). myra is the subject of my very 1st documentary -- gamugamo sa dilim about remote communities that have not seen light -- meaning electricity. myra has now graduated from college and is now sending her two sisters to school.

Question : How can other people help you achieve project malasakit's goals?

Kara: there are many ways to help project malasakit:

you may sponsor a child (1,000 pesos per month -- or less if you dont have that much; others naman give us a lump sum amount) -- you may donate via paypal accessible thru my website; via bank BPI katipunan Project Malasakit Inc. savings acct 3083-7033-92; we will also soon launch our text donate campaign

you may volunteer in our outreach programs which we do every two months, help in repacking goods, or help in distributing them to the communities

you may donate school supplies, rice, slippers, etc to the communities we help

my email is or my assistants and

Question : Can you share a message of inspiration to others who would like to start
their own socio-civic groups to help the community?

Kara: hindi mo kailangan maging mayaman para tumulong; hindi mo kailangan maging malaking tao para makapagdulot ng pagbabago; hindi mo kailangan maging martir para tumugon sa mga hinaing -- kailangan mo lang buksan ang iyong puso sa malasakit. share your blessings, share your time.

much is expected to whom much is given (luke 12:48).
let us change the world, one child at a time.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Kara and for being an inspiration. As for everyone who is reading this, let us do our part. We are all inspirational in our own way.

Who Inspires You?

If you are wondering where have I been? I hardly have been updating this site for the past weeks. I have been thinking of doing something new with Inspirational Insights... I want to feature people who have been giving inspiration to others whatever field they may be in. If you know of any one who fits this category or if you have a personal favorite who inspires you, do leave me a comment and your email address.

Aside from this, I have been quite busy with homeschooling my kids. It has been an exciting journey and of course, I have been reading other homeschooling blogs for more ideas too.

Anyway, hopefully, I can launch my bi-weekly project soon here at Inspirational Insights... and I hope you can be part of it!

WFW - Proverbs 4:27

It was just last Sunday that I learned that swerving actually means missing the mark. It has the same meaning as sin. It was a very timely reminder that we are not to leave the path that God has for us. We should persevere to stay on the right path, by God's grace.

5 Simple Things

If you are like me, your day can be cluttered. Being a homeschooling stay at home mom with 2 kids below 7 years old with lots of chores waiting to be completed in the house, your typical day usually is chaotic. With all the laundry that has piled up, clutter and toys all over the house, meals needing to be prepared, kids waiting to be helped, the list can be endless. My days can really drain me and it seems that life is just moving along.

After reading 5 Simple Things, it seems like I was given a guide how to declutter my life. Organize my day and make it more productive. It allowed me to do a lot of reflection on my daily activities. Make sure that I am doing what really matters.

5 Simple Things challenges the reader to thank, do, reach out, believe and love. I was challenged to the following for the next 30 days.
List down 5 things to be thankful for, 4 things to be accomplished for the day, 3 people to reach out to in order to build relationships with, 2 things to strengthen your faith and 1 random act of kindness.

As I did the challenges, I was surprised to note that I became more thankful for little things and I also became conscious of how I use my time. I also became more optimistic since I was able to finish more goals daily, whether big or small. Even if I don't usually go out to meet with people, I am glad that I am more intentional in building relationships with others so that I can bless and encourage them. Reading the Bible and praying to God are the 2 definite ways that strengthen my faith. Praying for others and being sensitive to other's needs are some ways that we can show random acts of kindness.

So if you want to get pass the clutter and complexity of life, take the 5 Simple Things challenge now.

WFW - Proverbs 10:9

Integrity is something we all need to have in our lives. It is one of the core values of Christians. Yet most of the time, we allow our integrity to be comprised and thus, our lives begin to have gray areas.

I take this as a reminder and a challenge to pass on to my kids a core value I want them to have as they grow up.

Pixel Bug Weekend #44

This was taken on Sunday when Kyla was inside the Sunday School room.
I am thankful for Sunday School which gives my kids additional lessons from the Bible and of course, they also get to interact with other kids.

Then Sings My Soul Saturdays: Only Hope

I loved this song when I heard this many years ago..
Just wanted to share it with you today.
Our only hope is Jesus!

White Furnitures

I am so thankful that we were able to purchase a cheap bookshelf earlier today. It was a good deal and we had fun assembling it as a family. But if you ask me, it would be a delight to be able to purchase white painted furniture. I saw some great white dining table from New England Lifestyle’s website and it really looked so elegant! The color white brings out the classic look. The white colored furniture becomes very professional and neat looking as well. I am also interested to purchase white chest of drawers for our room. The tall chest drawers are quite suitable for my kid’s room. I also saw several other furniture that they sell on the website. I particularly liked the white dining table, bookcases and display units. It is modern and classy. I think that white colored furniture never goes out of style. It easily fits any style of the house. Even if you don’t have a degree in Interior Design, these white colored furniture brings elegant design to one’s house.

Hopefully someday, we would be able to purchase these nice furniture and we would be able to renovate our house. But for now, I am grateful for what we have.

Psalm 46

Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields [b] with fire.

10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."

11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

What a wonderful reminder... God is bigger than all our big problems. We can rest and be still because His peace will fill our hearts in the midst of all challenges that life can bring to us.

WFW - John 4:14

(image from heartlight)

The water that Jesus gives us quenches our thirst... it never runs dry!
If you feel low today, don't forget to drink from the water that Jesus gave you.
Read and meditate on His word and rivers of living water will flow within you!
